The Top Five Jewellery Trade Fairs

If you tried to attend all of the major jewellery, watch and gem trade fairs around the world in one year you would almost certainly spend every day inside an exhibition centre or under a tent. But out of all the tradeshows around the globe, five stand out as among the most important. What follows is a summary of these top trade fairs and brief explanation of why they are so special.
Baselworld.
Swiss watch exports in 2010 reached 16.2 billion Swiss francs and the way sales are going to this year, this figure will be shattered for 2011. Baselworld is the most important show in the Swiss watch industry and the largest jewellery and watch show in the world. Held at a 160,000 square-meter multi-building exhibition complex in Basel, Switzerland, the eight-day event in March attracted more than 102,000 visitors. It’s the place where all of the top Swiss watch brands release their most exciting products. And it’s not just for watches anymore. Nearly all of the top jewellery and gemstone companies are also housed in many of the campus buildings. Next show, March 8 – 15, 2012.
September Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair.
By far the largest trade fair in Asia, in recent years it has experienced such a dramatic increase in exhibitors and visitors that it is now held in two venues: The Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre and the newer AsiaWorld-Expo. The trade fair has all of things one would expect at a jewellery fair and it has it in abundance, including jewellery made of all materials, gemstones, pearls, diamonds and equipment technology. More than 44,000 buyers from 135 countries are expected to view the products of 3,300 exhibitors from 45 countries at the upcoming fair, September 19 – 25.
Las Vegas Jewellery Week.
Even with its economic issues, the United States remains the largest and most stable market in the world. So, during the first week of June the jewellery world comes to Las Vegas to attend the jewellery and gem shows along the famed Las Vegas Strip. The main show of the week is JCK Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay resort and its affiliated shows for the luxury market and Swiss watches. The most recent fair attracted more than 20,000 buyers. The other big jewellery trade fair is the Couture Show, held at the Wynn resort, which include some of the best-known designer jewellery brands in the world. Other trade fairs on the strip deal with specific aspects of the industry, including gems, antique jewellery and jewellery artists. Next JCK Las Vegas show, June 1 -4, 2012. Tucson Gem Shows.
The small city in the Arizona desert becomes overrun with passionate people from around the world ready to examine any substance that is taken from the ground. More than 35 gem, jewellery, fossil and mineral shows—with many open to the public—last nearly a month. Every gem and mineral known to man is on display in hotel rooms, under tents and in more traditional convention spaces. The big show is AGTA GemFair Tucson, held at the Tucson Convention Center. It’s a big serious show that attracts an international group of sellers and buyers of precious gems. The other big trade event, which specializes in finished jewellery and gems, is the Gem & Jewellery Exchange, across the parking lot of the convention center under the big tent. VicenzaOro.
Italian jewellery is known throughout the world for its bold, elegant and refined designs; its superb craftsmanship; and its use of gold. The best showcase of this beautiful work are the VicenzaOro trade fairs. It is a set of four trade fairs in Vicenza, Italy, and a branded pavilion at JCK Las Vegas. Its best known show is VicenzaOro Charm held in May. The past show attracted 9,300 buyers from all parts of the world who viewed the works of 1,400 jewellery designers and manufacturers, mostly from Tuscany, the gold jewellery centre of Italy. The next VicenzaOro Charm will be held sometime in May.
