(IDEX Online News) – The Responsible Jewellery Council announced that Super Diam BVBA and Harriet Kelsall Jewelry Design Ltd have achieved certification meeting the ethical, human rights, social and environmental standards as established by the RJC’s Member Certification System.
Super Diam is an Antwerp-based diamond polishing manufacturer and part of the Bhavani Gems Group. Harriet Kelsall Jewelry Design is a UK bespoke jeweler.
"This certification demonstrates our commitment to complying with the ethical, social and environmental requirements in our business practices,” said Samir Khadela, director of Super Diam on achieving the RJC certification for three years.
Super Diam was established in 1998 as the Antwerp sales and purchasing office of Bhavani Gems. The group is headquartered in Mumbai and has ten manufacturing units in Gujarat. The Group started its operations in January 1989 and became DTC Sightholder in 1996.
“Earlier this year we became one of the first 20 jewelers in the UK to be able to work in Fairtrade gold and we are noticing a rise in customers who are requesting their jewelry to be made from ethical and sustainable materials,” said Harriet Kelsall, managing director of Harriet Kelsall Jewelry Design.
"The Responsible Jewellery Council’s Member Certification System is an excellent initiative of which we are proud to be a part and we would strongly urge other organizations in the jewelry industry to strive to achieve RJC certification,” Kelsall added.
Based in Hertfordshire and Cambridge, Harriet Kelsall Jewellery Design is a leading UK bespoke jewelry design company specializing in engagement rings, wedding rings, commitment rings and eternity rings as well as jewelry for other memorable occasions.
"Harriet emphasized that she feels strongly that the BJA and/or the NAG need to produce some documentation with pointers on relevant UK legislation, as she is keen to try to do what she can to help other UK small businesses get certified,” says Simon Rainer, CEO of the British Jewellers Association.
“We are keen to work on this information once we have gathered a group of BJA members keen to get certified. Harriet has, once again, blazed a significant trail here that others must follow,” Rainer added.
