GJEPC Inaugurates Indo-Euro Summit

RAPAPORT... The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) on Tuesday inaugurated the third edition of its Indo-Euro Summit in Mumbai. The two-day summit will include a series of high-level meetings between the top European retailers and leading Indian jewelry manufacturers.
"We hope the summit will translate into ostensible progress and exchange of ideas between both the parties concerned and will give impetus to trade and business transacted and greater volume of trade and greater reach," said Rajiv Jain, GJEPC’s chairman.
He noted that although there is a crisis in Europe, the time is right to take more initiatives to do business.
“This is the time when customers are looking for destinations where they could source better quality goods and at cheaper prices and India is the best destination for that," Jain said.
He added that this is the final edition of the Indo-Euro Summit as most of the bigger players from Europe have been covered and the GJEPC will look at other countries to organize similar initiatives.
The Indo-Euro Summit, which first took place in 2009, has played a vital role in helping Indian diamond cutters and dealers penetrate Europe and connect with major players on a one on one basis. Over the years, nearly 30 major European retailers participated in the summit to learn and experience more about the Indian jewelry manufacturing sector, according to the GJEPC.
Jain stated that there are six larger companies from Europe in this year's summit. Participants from India include Asian Star Jewels, Core Jewellery, Fine Jewellery, Goldiam International, Indigo Jewellery, Inter Carat Jewelry, Inter Gold (India), KBS Designs, Kiran Jewels (India), Patdiam Jewellery, Priority Jewels, SNC Jewels, Stellar Jewellery, Sunjewels International and Uni-Design Jewellery.
GJEPC, which has 5,500 members, is the apex body of the gem and jewelry industry in the country and operates under the supervision of India’s Ministry of Commerce & Industry.
