Dubai Gold Conference on Nov. 13

The eighth annual Dubai City of Gold Conference will be held on November 13 at Almas Tower and feature a diamond industry presentation by Pranay Narvekar, a partner at Pharos Beam Consulting LLP. Narvekar will discuss strategic, financial and structural problems facing the diamond industry. Additionally, Peter Meeus, the chairman of the board for the Dubai Diamond Exchange, will share his vision in terms of development and implementation of the master plan for Dubai's diamond sector.
The conference will also include special presentations on research and development of the gold and jewelry sectors. Topics will address new gold colors --such as purple and blue-- and gold alloy effects, powder metallurgy, gold based composites and new colored gold coatings. Fillipe Samuel Silva, the director at University of Guimarães, Portugal, will explore ''New Frontiers in Jewellery Industry - a Research & Development Approach'' as he discusses new casting processes that give rise to various new forms of gold.
A bullion section at this event features speakers Paul Walker, the global head of precious metals for GFMS at Thomson Reuters, Gerhard Schubert, the head of precious metals at NBD, and Walter De Wett, the head of commodity research for Standard Bank.
In a jewelry sector presentation, speeches will be delivered by Donald Friedlich, the former president of the Society of North American Goldsmiths, followed by Sanjay Kothari, the vice chairman of the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council of India, and Juliet Hutton Squire, a jewelry critic and analyst.
