US Antique Shows experienced a 25 percent increase in attendance at its recent New York Antique Jewelry & Watch Show, setting a new attendance record for the five-year-old event.
Andrea Canady, fair director, said the July 22 to 25 show “surpassed last year’s numbers by a wide margin,” and that exhibitors reported strong sales, with a buyer interest in diamonds and colored stones.
“In my opinion, the big difference this year was that a lot of the European dealers were back,” Jerry Heidenrich, of Los Angeles-based Jerome Heidenrich, said. “Besides diamonds, we found a huge interest for big colored stone pieces, for which buyers were willing to pay between $10,000 and $50,000.”
Gus Davis of New York-based Camilla Dietz Bergeron said he saw a demand for signed pieces, adding that “half of our sales were earrings.” Many exhibitors said the traffic on the show floor was up, creating a setting conducive to meeting both buyers and sellers.
The organization’s next show will be The Miami Beach Antique Jewelry & Watch Show, scheduled for Oct. 14 to 16 at The Miami Beach Convention Center.
The New York Antique Jewelry & Watch Show is produced by GLM, a producer and marketer of consumer product tradeshows in North America.
